For the most part the fathers of our country got everything just about right. The only problem is that life was a lot different back then than it is now. Life was a lot less complicated, you didn't have powerful lobbyist and special interest groups trying to run the country. You didn't have millions of illegal immigrants fighting to stay here even though they broke the laws.
You are starting to hear talk in congress about looking at the 14th ammendment. The main reason for this assessment would be the problem with anchor babies stemmed by the amount of illegal immigrants. I totally agree with the need to re-look at this issue. Our forefathers would be appaulled by what is currently going on in this country. They above all others understand the principle of immigration and why we need to go thru proper channels in order to ensure security of our shores. Look at the number of crimes related directly to the infiltration of our southern borders. I hope the pressure keeps building on congress to do the right thing.
In most people's mind there is no middle ground. It seems that the question here is do we as Americans uphold the laws of our country or just turn a blind eye to the mass influx of illegals to our country?

One solution that would work
Heavy fines for employers hiring any illegal would turn off the spikett, thereby making it nearly impossible for them to gain employment.
The Goshen effect
I live in northern Indiana. Approximately 25 miles southeast of us is the City of Goshen, In. Goshen is close to Elkhart, In which is the RV capital of the world. During the boom times thousands of illegals made their way to northern Indiana to work for any one of 100 manufacturers. The problems was most of them could not speak english, the crime rate in Goshen went from non-existant to dealing with gangs and various other crimes. The cost to the city and taxpayers was enormous. The hospitals were inindated with high number of uninsured patients. You get the picture.
